June – A small recap :)

Hello there!

It’s been a whole month since my last post on here – Too long!

I’ve been so very busy working on several projects, tattooing and drawing too – I don’t know about you, but a certain number of projects being juggled always gets me real excited and keeps me motivated. Too many and I get stressed, too few and I’m under stimulated, you know?

Anyway!

I’ve had a blast tattooing through June, there’s a whole bunch of stuff up on my page but I think this piece was a real standout for me

It’s been a minute since I drew any villages, I think having a break from them really helped me reassess and come back to the subject matter with lots of new ideas. I really enjoyed adding more character to these buildings with some smaller details, like the fence, box and rocks scattered around.

I’m going to draw loads of these now! Just you wait and see

Anyway – I also released a whole bunch of dice too. They’re all available now on my store www.folktown.world
I’m very proud of them, even though I’m not playing a whole lot of board games right now I still love making and collecting dice, they’re sop satisfying and look kind of edible too – Go check them out!

Short update for you, but I’m off to draw some more villages now! Keep an eye out – I’ll be back on here again later this week with some more updates!

New month – New Drawings

Thought I’d start the month off with this new sheet of illustrations
I like the idea of this blog being a little more in-depth than my instagram posts, somewhere I can ramble a bit 𖦹

I spoke a lot in my last blog post about how I largely changed the subject matter of my work at the start of the year, moving more toward folk imagery as opposed to the more medieval work I’ve been doing over the last few years

Anyway –  I feel like this sheet is a great example of where I’ve been over the last six months (mentally, and kinda literally too lol) and also where I want to go with my work, bringing together my love of nature and folklore under the lens of the bold (loosely) medieval style I really love working in

Sometimes I like my sheets of flash to feel like one big image or a poster! Sometimes I like them to feel like a collage – This one feels more collage to me 🙂 Like a mind map of things that remind me of home if that makes sense?

Crickets and mushrooms, a flower, a tree – These make me think of running around as a kid looking for cool shit in the woods
A forager (picking garlic, I think? could be an onion?), hagstones, and strange symbols all feel close to home, things I think about if I imagine olden times here yknow?

Anyway – I hope you enjoy this page of new stuff! More to come soon! 𖦹

New Folk Imagery

So! At the start of this year I decided to look back at everything I’ve made over the last three or so years (around the time I started tattooing in the ‘woodcut’ style) and in doing so I realised what I enjoyed tattooing, and what I really wanted to avoid going forwards

I decided to start drawing more within the realms of nature, folklore and folk-imagery, looking primarily at English and European imagery as a starting point

I love the countryside, and nature, and I really love to ponder my role within! Nature has been a huge inspiration for me since I was a child! Looking to it now for inspiration feels like coming back to my roots and the thing I love the most

Really, I’m less interested in repeating the symbols and characters we all know from our folklore; Instead I want to draw on it all, be inspired by it, but form my own visual language – Whether this be in the form of woodcut-esque characters and animals, plants or creative symbols and pattern that reflect the countryside; I want to do it all, but in my own way, you know?

So now I’m really enjoying creating pages and illustrations that combine my usual woodcut imagery with patterns, symbols and graphic elements inspired by our ancient land! It’s been fun, I feel inspired, I love drawing!

Anyway! I’m waffling now, its been ages since I’ve written anything down like this

I’m just happy to move away from violent and aggressive imagery! It just isn’t me, and to be honest I really find it so boring and exhausting too (skulls are still cool though)

Hello world!

𖦹 Something new for me! Something new for you! 𖦹

I originally wanted to make this site as a pseudo-linktree, somewhere I could put a bunch of cool stuff to post up on my instagram – and then I realised it might be neat to have an informal blog on here too?

I’m not going to use this to try sell anything, or get your email, or any of that stuff! I think I’m going to use this to post some thoughts every week, maybe some drawings and maybe some photos too, let’s see?

Anyway

At the top you’ll find a link to my shop www.folktown.world – Theres some cool stuff coming soon!

I posted a little link to music I really love as well – That’ll take you to my bandcamp collection, there’s a whole bunch of music on there (some of it by my friends! So cool) I play a lot of these records when I’m tattooing, so if you’ve been tattooed by me you’ve probably heard a bunch of it 🙂

There’s also a link to some tattoo info, if you want to get tattooed! Give it a read

Lastly, you’ve got a link to my blog 𖦹 Which you’re reading right now 𖦹

Lovely 𖦹
